Max Grunau's martial arts career spans many years and various disciplines. Starting first with judo, then ju-jitsu, and now karate. His career achievements include Springbok colours in Judo and Karate, and winning the World Karate Championship in Monte Carlo in 1978. As a highly respected international instructor, Shihan Grunau is regularly invited to teach karate seminars, both locally and abroad. Shihan Max started his karate training in 1970 with Kyokushin and eventually moved on to seek and experience other styles of karate. He travelled extensively overseas striving to gain a better knowledge and deeper understanding of karate and the

martial arts. Training with various karate masters from other styles, and teaching at different dojos. He eventually settled in Cape Town to manage his full time dojo with what he believes is the best from each different system. Shihan Max believes that martial arts should not be static - "As the world changes and people progress, so must martial arts progress - Shindokan Dojo offers that progression".
